Healthcare Landscape Design-Build, Lebanon, OR — Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital

Winner of the 2006 Healthcare Environment Award for Landscape Design

This hospital healing garden ushers Lebanon Community Hospital into the forefront of progressive healthcare. Restorative gardens in healthcare settings are proven to lower operating costs, and increase patient and staff satisfaction. This Japanese landscape design occupies a central courtyard in the hospital, and is designed with specific hospital populations in mind. Views include private gardens for the infusion therapy wing, birth wing, education classrooms and cafeteria. Visitors and staff also benefit from access to the healing garden, designed to allow public access while at the same time ensuring the privacy of patients.

Restorative gardens reduce stress in patients, staff and visitors to the hospital, helping them to cope successfully with whatever challenges they may experience while receiving or giving care.
