We apply natural patterns to solve complex design challenges, resulting in whole-system design, a methodology deeply rooted in place, people, and purpose. Our approach to landscape, business, and life depends on rigorous study of local conditions, sensitivity to history, and above all, humility.

Derived from ecology in its broadest sense, our whole-system design draws out nature’s unique ability to meet humanity’s need for inspiration, restoration, and healing. Kurisu addresses projects with an acute aesthetic sensibility and an evidence-based approach on projects as intimate as residential courtyards and as vast as public parks.

All Kurisu designs are the vision of founder Hoichi Kurisu. As an artist and dreamer, Hoichi’s process begins with a hand-drawn design, crafted after consultation with the client and a physical visit to the site.

Healing Gardens

Our Japanese-style healing gardens are designed with an intention for restoration on the deepest levels. We incorporate the ancient philosophies and techniques of Japanese garden design to reawaken the connection between people and nature – between ourselves and the larger, timeless cycles of change and regeneration.
